Human rights in a globalising world – final remarks

To conclude a day of interesting lectures, masterclasses, workshops and discussions, some leading experts on human rights and globalisation will gather in the closing debate on the main themes of A Struggle for Peace. What do they expect for the future of human rights in a globalising world? Do they see major support for the universalist approach to human rights, or will the so-called Asian Values become increasingly dominant? Will globalisation continue, or can we expect the emergence of a strong countercurrent with greater focus on the nation-state? Looking at the measures being taken after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, or considering the strong call for reducing migration towards European countries, this countercurrent already seems to be present. What does this mean for the position of human rights around the globe?

Participants in the debate will be Leif Wenar, Jenny Goldschmidt, Rosi Braidotti, Samir Amin and Suhas Chakma.
