Live video chat: Afghanistan
In this video chat we establish a live connection with one of the partner organisations of Oxfam Novib in Afghanistan. During the session, you will get the opportunity to ask questions about their work, their experiences as human rights defenders and you will get an insider's view on human rights in Afghanistan.
Now that the Afghan government and international donors are taking care of basic education and basic health care, Oxfam Novib shifts its attention to important initiatives that have less opportunity to attract large amounts of funding. Examples are mobile clinics for nomads, the education of midwives and supplementary feeding of malnourished children. On the topic of conflict management, Oxfam Novib focuses on reconciliation and peace education in local communities. All programs dedicate special attention to the position of women. Another important aspect of their work is capacity building in the emerging civil society in Afghanistan. Currently, Oxfam Novib supports 33 projects in Afghanistan.
Oxfam Novib is one of the largest NGOs in the field of development cooperation in the Netherlands. The organisation regards poverty as being equal to a lack of rights. Due to a lack of basic rights, people that live in poverty do not have (sufficient) access to power, material resources and basic services. An honest income. Enough food. A good education. Safety and freedom of speech. Governments and international institutions all over the world acknowledge that everyone should have access to these basic rights. However, the observance of these rights often leaves a great deal to be desired. Oxfam Novib’s work is aimed at enabling poor people to claim their basic rights.
The basis of Oxfam Novib’s work is cooperation with counterparts in developing countries and their networks. Oxfam Novib supports projects of 850 local initiatives and organisations in about 60 different countries worldwide.
